German luxury car maker Audi will preview an all-electric crossover at Frankfurt Motor Show, in a bid to knock Tesla Model X off its perch.

The crossover would be based on Volkswagen group's second-gen MLB platform and will have a new design that the company is developing solely for EVs and plug-in hybrids.

The unnamed car is expected to hit the showrooms in 2018 and might come in plug-in hybrid and hydrogen versions, in addition to the fully electric variant. Audi expects to sell 10,000 such cars annually, despite the hefty price tag it is likely to carry along with it.
