The 2020 Ignis gets a BS-VI compliant engine, two new colours, and a few tweaks inside and out.
After unveiling the petrol-powered Vitara Brezza and S-Cross yesterday, Maruti Suzuki has kickstarted the third day at the Auto Expo 2020 by unveiling the Ignis facelift. As is the norm with facelifts, the 2020 Ignis only gets a few tweaks to the interior and exterior.
The refreshed Ignis gets a few aesthetic updates to the exterior, such as the new S-Presso inspired front grille, redesigned fog lamp housings, and dual-tone front and rear bumpers. In profile, the Ignis remains exactly identical to the ongoing model. There are two new colour options too – lucent orange and turquoise blue.
Under the hood, the Ignis still comes powered by the same K12 series engine, which is now compliant with the stricter BS-VI emission norms. A 5-speed manual gearbox is a standard fit, with an option of a 5-speed AMT. The engine delivers 82bhp and 113Nm of torque.
There are no major changes in the interior too. The dashboard layout remains identical to the pre-facelift Ignis. The only major change is the new Smartplay Studio infotainment system that replaces the old one. Although the old one too came with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, this refreshed unit gets a few additional features as well.
This is the first update to the Ignis since Maruti Suzuki launched it in 2017. In the Indian market, the Ignis competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata Tiago. Expected to be launched in the upcoming months, the 2020 Ignis is likely to demand a marginal premium over the outgoing model.
