Piaggio India may borrow the Euro-spec Vespa Elettrica's powertrain, retune it, and offer it on one of the Vespa models already on sale here.

Right next to the rather striking-looking Aprilia SXR 160 scooter, the Piaggio Elettrica e-scooter made a quiet Indian debut today at the Auto Expo 2020. To get readers up to speed, the Vespa Elettrica made its international commercial debut last year. It's powered by a 4kW (5.3bhp) electric motor that can run for up to 100km on a single charge. 4-hours of charging time is enough to fully charge it. Now, don't expect this Euro-spec Piaggio Elettrica to arrive in India. It's been showcased here because Piaggio India is planning an electric model for our market.

There are no confirmed details on the subject matter yet, however, it's quite likely that one of the many Vespa models on sale here already will get the electric makeover. With shared components, Piaggio can manage to keep the costs low and price the product competitively. As for the India-spec product's debut, expect the timeline to stretch to 2021.

Apart from this, Piaggio India showcased the all-new SXR 160 scooter (which is coming to India this year) and the facelifted 2020 versions of the Vespa Red, Vespa VXL, and Vespa SXL. The Vespa Racing Sixties Limited Edition scooter was also present at Piaggio's stand.
