Lando Norris climbed to the top of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship standings after winning the Mexico City Grand Prix. The McLaren driver led the race from the opening lap, maintaining control through all 71 laps and avoiding early incidents that affected several drivers behind. The victory marked his sixth of the season and placed him ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri in the standings. With four rounds remaining, the result intensified the competition for the title as the McLaren pair continue to set the pace in both championships. Charles Leclerc finished second for Ferrari after defending against Max Verstappen in the closing laps.

Verstappen and Red Bull opted for an alternate strategy, but a late Virtual Safety Car period prevented him from challenging for second place. The outcome gave Ferrari a valuable points haul in its campaign for second position in the constructors’ table. Verstappen remains third in the overall championship but faces pressure to close the gap to the McLaren duo with only a few rounds left in the season.
