The 2025 Shanghai E-Prix delivered high drama across two action-packed races, showcasing Formula E’s intense competition and unpredictability. On Saturday, Maximilian Günther dominated the dry race, leading a DS Penske 1-2 finish. Günther converted pole position into his second win of the season, closely followed by teammate Jean-Éric Vergne in second. McLaren’s Taylor Barnard completed the podium with a solid third-place finish. Meanwhile, Dan Ticktum impressed with a remarkable recovery drive for Nissan, climbing from 21st on the grid to finish fourth.

Sunday’s wet race saw Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy master difficult conditions, converting pole into a flawless victory despite heavy rain and limited visibility.
Maximilian Gunther’s commanding performance at the Shanghai E-Prix helped him consolidate his position in the 2025 Formula E drivers’ championship. Driving for DS Penske, Günther led from start to finish, securing a lights-to-flag victory that marked his second win of the season. His teammate Jean-Eric Vergne also impressed, charging through the field from tenth to finish second and earning his first podium of the year.
Taylor Barnard of McLaren secured third place after battling hard in the closing stages, fending off late challenges in a race filled with overtaking and strategic energy management. Dan Ticktum stood out for Nissan, climbing 17 places to finish fourth, demonstrating aggressive racecraft and effective tyre strategy. Championship leader Oliver Rowland continued his consistent form with a fifth-place finish, maintaining his lead in the standings. The opening race confirmed the depth of competition among DS Penske, McLaren, and Nissan this season.
Sunday’s race tested driver skill with heavy rain at the Shanghai International Circuit. Nick Cassidy showcased exceptional control for Jaguar, leading every lap in challenging wet conditions to take a commanding win. Cassidy’s tyre management and calm under pressure earned Jaguar a crucial victory and ended his 2025 winless streak.
Oliver Rowland faced difficulties, starting 17th and finishing 13th without scoring points. Despite the setback, Rowland holds a 68-point championship lead over Pascal Wehrlein. However, the result means the 2025 title fight will extend beyond the upcoming Jakarta E-Prix to the Berlin double-header in July.
