Stoffel Vandoorne claimed a brilliant victory in Round 8 of Tokyo E-Prix 2025, securing his first Formula E win since his 2022 title season. Starting from 14th on the grid, the Maserati MSG driver made a perfect Pit Boost stop just before a red flag paused the race. This well-timed move helped him jump ahead of other drivers who had to pit later under safety car conditions.
Championship leader Oliver Rowland started from pole and led the race early in his Nissan Formula E car. However, the race changed when Maximilian Guenther’s DS Penske car caused a red flag incident due to an electrical issue. This broke Rowland’s momentum and forced him to fight hard for second place, holding off Taylor Barnard of McLaren and Sebastien Buemi of Envision. Despite missing out on a win, Rowland increased his lead in the Formula E 2025 standings to 60 points.

Vandoorne’s win was built on strong energy management and precise timing. His early Pit Boost avoided the crowded pit lane after the restart, giving him a clear track and a strong lead. Even with a slight spin and a conservative finish, he crossed the line with an eight-second gap. Dan Ticktum earned his best result of the season in fifth for Kiro, while Edoardo Mortara brought home sixth place for Mahindra Racing.
Oliver Rowland took a big step towards the Formula E world championship with a dominant win at the Tokyo E-Prix second race. Starting from pole position, the Nissan driver kept his cool and fended off late pressure from Pascal Wehrlein and Dan Ticktum, who celebrated his first-ever podium in Formula E. The race ended early for title hopefuls Taylor Barnard and Antonio Felix da Costa, both retiring due to incidents.
The race was filled with position changes, thanks to the strategic use of attack modes. Rowland briefly dropped to sixth but made a strong recovery with clever energy use. Wehrlein and Ticktum both led at different stages, while Barnard also showed strong pace before crashing on Lap 29 after contact with Edoardo Mortara, bringing out the safety car and setting up a dramatic final lap.
