The 2014 JK Tyre FMSCI National Karting Championship came to a conclusion at the V-1 track in Visakhapatnam with Ameya Bafna, Ricky Donison and Yash Aradhya clinching the title in their respective categories.
Cyclone Hudud may have postponed the event, it did little to dampen the spirits of young guns who have taken the first step in the ladder to be a professional racing driver.
In the Senior Max, Mumbai’s Ameya Bafna took the National Karting Championship crown despite a relatively low key result at the season finale. In the pre-final race, he finished third while in the final race he was content with a fourth place result.
Instead it was Chittesh Mandody who stole the limelight with a second place result in the pre-final and a dominant victory in the final race of the weekend. Mandody had a heart stopping moment when mechanics rushed to his #77 kart on the grid to make sure it was ready for race. Eventually his hard working crew managed to get his kart ready moments before the warm up lap and Mandody duled returned the favour with a clear victory for Mohite Racing.
The Junior Max category saw a heated contest between Kushi Maini and Ricky Donison with the former overtaking the BPC driver to take the top step on the podium. However, Donison had more reasons to celebrate as a second place result was enough to seal the title, albeit by just four points.
While the Junior Max category was about a close contest between two drivers fighting tooth and neck for the champion, the 9-12 years age group Micro Max category was all about utter domination. Bangalore’s Yash Aradhya won the final race with ease to make it four out of five victories in the season. Paul Francis finished third in the final race to consolidate second in the National Karting Championship.
