Hyundai Grand i10 Editorial Review
Hyundai developed the Grand i10 in India, launched it in 2013 before exporting it to the European market. It nicely bridged the gap between the i10 and the i20 in Hyundai’s portfolio with its premium interior and loads of features. The Grand i10 has been designed to be in line with Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy. The hexagonal grille and the large pulled back headlamps dominate the front end of the Grand i10. The curvy lines flow smoothly from the front to the back while its profile gets enhanced thanks to the diamond cut alloy wheels. From the back it looks like a scaled down version of the previous-generation i20. In terms of dimensions, the Grand i10 is smaller than most of its competitors but Hyundai has managed to bring it together really well. Step inside the cabin and you won't quite feel it to be smaller. The front seats are wide, but could have been a little more supportive. Thanks to a flat floor, three adults at the back should be fairly comfortable over short and medium distances. In terms of features, the top spec Grand i10 comes fully loaded with features like height adjustable driver seat, tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, button start, keyless entry, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs, 2 DIN audio with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity. As far as the engine is concerned, the Grand i10 comes with petrol and Diesel engine options. The gasoline motor is Hyundai’s 1.2-litre Kappa unit that churns out 81bhp and 114Nm. This unit comes mated to a 5-speed manual as well as a 4-speed auto transmission. The manual petrol returns an efficiency of 18.9kmpl while the automatic variant’s efficiency is rated at 16.95kmpl. The diesel motor on the other hand makes just 70bhp and 160Nm from a 1.1-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The diesel Grand i10 efficiency is 24kmpl. Considering that the Grand i10 isn't as powerful as some of its competitors, don't expect it to be great in terms of performance. That packs enough punch for your city jaunts. At 256 litres, the Hyundai Grand i10’s boot space is the largest in its class, which means it can pack enough luggage for a long weekend trip. As far as driving dynamics are concerned, the softly setup suspension of the Grand i10 gives it a great ride quality, however the downside of it is evident in it handling. Overall, with all the features, a smooth engine and gearbox and decent space, it is a smart choice for someone looking to buy a car in this class. Likes – radical design, alloy wheels Dislikes – too soft
Hyundai Grand i10 Exterior Review
Following Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy, the Grand i10 has a rather soothing personality thanks to its curvy lines all around. The large one-piece hexagonal grille, the swept back headlamps and the circular fog lamps come in perfect union to give the front end a complete look. The beauty of the Grand i10 design is in how smoothly it flows from the front to the back. The curvy approach continues in its profile and at the back too. The Grand i10 ground clearance is 160mm. The top-spec Asta variant of the Grand i10 comes with 14-inch allow wheels that come fitted with 165/65 section tyres. The lower variants get similar sized tyres but with 14-inch rims. Hyundai will give the popular Grand i10 an update soon. Likes – radical design, alloy wheels Dislikes – too soft
Hyundai Grand i10 Interior Review
The interior of the Hyundai Grand i10 is really well out together. Yes, it doesn’t have an elegant or sporty design to it, but takes a mature and subtle approach to the interior design. Everything looks premium, top notch in terms of quality and well put together. The dual-tone cabin feels airy and the steering wheel feels nice to hold too. The front Seats are wide but could have been a bit better bolstered. Knee and leg room at the back is good and It also gets rear AC vents. Overall, it is a comfortable place to be in. Likes – premium feel, build quality Dislikes – needs more supportive seats.
Hyundai Grand i10 Features Review
In terms of features, the Hyundai Grand i10 leaves little to complain about. The top-spec Asta variant comes fitted with all the bells and whistles including, keyless entry, button start, steering mounted controls, 2DIN audio system with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity, height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs and more. In terms of safety, all variants come with a driver side airbag while the higher variants come with 2 airbags. The fully loaded models are also fitted with ABS but doesn’t get Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Likes – fully loaded Dislikes – base variant comes with only 1 airbag
Hyundai Grand i10 Engine Specifications and performance Review
The Hyundai Grand i10 is offered with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol motor displaces 1,197cc from which it pumps 81bhp and 114Nm. The diesel in the other hand is a 3-pot 1,120cc motor which makes 70bhp and 160Nm. The Hyundai Grand i10 engines are absolutely refined. The 5-speed manual transmission is smooth and precise. Likes – refined engine, smooth gearbox Dislikes – performance
Hyundai Grand i10 Mileage Review
The Hyundai Grand i10 petrol efficiency is 18.9kmpl while the diesel returns 24kmpl. The Hyundai Grand i10 with the automatic transmission returns an efficiency of 16.95kmpl. Likes – respectable mileage Dislikes - None
Hyundai Grand i10 Ride and Handling Review
The Hyundai Grand i10 is setup on softly which gives it phenomenal ride quality over broken and rough roads. The Grand i10 ground clearance of 165mm means it’s underbelly doesn’t scrape over large bumps either. The downside of a softer suspension setup is evident in its handling. There is ample of body roll and the lack of feedback on the steering wheel doesn’t help the cause either. Likes – ride quality Dislikes – handling, steering feedback
Hyundai Grand i10 Engine & Gearbox
The Hyundai Grand i10 gets petrol as well as diesel engine options. Both get a 5-speed manual transmission while the petrol also gets the option of an automatic.
Hyundai Grand i10 Competition
In the Indian market, the Hyundai Grand i10 competes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Ford Figo and the Tata Bolt.
Hyundai Grand i10 Safety Features
The lower variants of the Hyundai Grand i10 only come with driver side airbags while the higher variants are fitted with front two airbags. The higher variants also get ABS.
