Kia Sonet Preview
Kia Motors will enter the competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment with the all-new Sonet. Kia aims to add state-of-the-art technology along with cutting edge sporty design to this segment. Based on the underpinnings of its cousin, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia compact SUV will be more rugged and bold looking, thanks to its signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille with the sleek daytime running lights, or as Kia likes to call them ‘Tiger Eyeline’. From the sides, the Sonet’s bulging biceps like wheel arches and the thick C-pillar give it a dynamic and muscular road presence. With red accents running across the lower lip of the front bumper, door panels, and alloy wheels, expect Kia to sport a GT Line variant, like the Seltos.
The cabin materials, the fit-and-finish and the features will be class-leading. It will feature a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a premium Bose audio system. Like the Seltos, the Sonet too will come with UVO Connect, which will offer features like navigation, additional security, vehicle management, and remote control.
Sonet will offer three engine options – a 1-litre turbo petrol, a 1.2-litre petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. It will be available in both manual and automatic transmission (Kia calls it an intelligent manual transmission or iMT). Kia has also hinted that the Sonet will offer a sportier ride than the Venue as the suspension set up will be on the firmer side.
The Kia Sonet will make its debut in the latter half of this year and will be priced in the region of Rs 7 – 12 lakh, ex-showroom. Kia will have its hands full, as it will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the Hyundai Venue.
