Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV Preview
To make the most out of the rapidly growing MPV segment, Maruti Suzuki is expected to bring a 7-seater offering based on the Wagon R. As of now, the Ertiga is the only MPV offering from the Maruti Suzuki stables but the Wagon R 7-seater is expected to be launched in the Indian market next year. The car was first introduced in concept form at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show. In terms of appearance, the Wagon R MPV will get its design cues from this concept while the overall silhouette will look like a stretched out version of its namesake. With the 5-seater Wagon R being 3.5 metres in length, the manufacturer has the freedom to play with the length of the car. To accommodate the third row, the length of the car will be increased and thereby the distance between the C-and D-pillars. That being said, the boot space is sure to take a hit. There is no official confirmation about the engine that the Wagon R MPV will come with. The current Wagon R only comes with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. This engine however might just be a bit underpowered for the purpose. The 1.2-litre petrol unit from the Swift and the Baleno, that churns out 83bhp and 115 Nm might just be a suitable option for this car. There might also be a diesel version on the cards. The Wagon R MPV will directly compete against the Datsun Go Plus. Expect the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV to be priced around the Rs 5-6 lakh mark.
