An updated feature list, new colour schemes, and a special edition – the 2021 version of the BMW Motorrad R 1250 GS and the R 1250 GS Adventure could pack all of the aforementioned things.
BMW Motorrad has teased the updated flagship adventure tourer on its social network handle. For the model year 2021, the R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure are expected to be offered with new colour schemes and updated features.
The teaser video gives us a glimpse of the knuckle guard, which have been painted in yellow. This makes us believe that 2021 R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure are likely to be offered with the company’s ‘40 years GS’ edition colour scheme – a combination of black and yellow, similar to the one on the BMW G 310 GS.
Along with the introduction of a new colour scheme, we suspect that the motorcycles are likely to be equipped with the latest generation of electronics, i.e., updated hill-hold function, electronic stability control, IMU-based multi-level traction control, traction control, etc.
The 2021 model could also come equipped with BMW’s adaptive cornering headlamp system as an optional extra. The system lets the headlamp reflector swivel up to 30 degrees, allowing it to illuminate corners ahead. The system also allows the rider to change the angle of the light beam in case of a rear suspension squat caused by luggage or a pillion.
Mechanically, both the R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure will continue with the same powertrain option. A 1,254cc boxer-twin powers both the adventure motorcycles and is rated at 134bhp at 7,750rpm and 143Nm at 6,250rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The electronics include two riding modes and an IMU-based safety net.
The prices for the lower BMW R 1250 GS start at Rs 20.45 lakh, while the R 1250 GS Adventure demands Rs 22.35 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. The new 2021 model is likely to demand a premium of Rs 30,000 – 40,000 over the price of the current model. Expect it to be launched in the coming weeks.
