BMW Motorrad India is launching its updated R 1250 GS and the R 1250 GS Adventure on July 8. A new colour scheme, refreshed feature list and more variants to choose from is what we expect from the flagship ADV.
After a set of teaser pictures on social network platforms, BMW Motorrad India has finally announced the date of the launch of its updated flagship adventure motorcycles. The 2021 BMW R 1250 GS and the R 1250 GS Adventure will be launched in India on July 8. The 2021 model year (MY21) is expected with subtle cosmetic changes, a new colour scheme and a revised feature list.
The 2021 model could come equipped with BMW’s adaptive cornering headlamp system as an add-on option for an added cost. The system lets the headlamp reflector swivel up to 30 degrees, for a wider spread of light beam while entering a corner. The system also allows the rider to change the angle (upwards or downwards) of the light beam in case of a rear suspension squat caused by luggage or a pillion.
BMW Motorrad India gave us a glimpse of the knuckle guard through a teaser video on the social network platform. The knuckle guards were painted yellow, which makes us believe that 2021 R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure are likely to be offered with the company’s ‘40 years GS’ edition colour scheme – a combination of black and yellow, similar to the one on the BMW G 310 GS.
The engine in both motorcycles is likely to be unchanged. A 1,254cc boxer-twin good enough for 134bhp at 7,750rpm and 143Nm at 6,250rpm will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. The electronics include two riding modes and an IMU-based safety net.
However, the 2021 R 1250 GS twins are likely to be equipped with the latest generation of electronics, i.e., updated hill-hold function, electronic stability control, IMU-based multi-level traction control, traction control, etc.
Currently, the BMW R 1250 GS is priced at Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom), while the R 1250 GS Adventure costs Rs 22.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The new 2021 model is likely to demand a premium of Rs 30,000 – 40,000 over the price of the current model.
