2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 unveiled with hybrid tech

While the styling largely stays the same, the updated Yamaha Fascino 125 gets mechanical updates. Similar tweaks are expected on the 2021 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 on both its Standard as well as Rally variants

Yamaha has revealed its updated Fascino 125 scooter, and for the model year 2021 (MY21), the Fascino gets minor cosmetic and mechanical tweaks.

Yamaha has smartly incorporated a ‘hybrid tech’ into the powertrain by using the starter motor to supply power to the crankshaft when starting from a stop or under sudden acceleration. Yamaha also claims that the system reduces the nervous power delivery of an I.C engine during start-outs in tandem riding or even during uphill climbs. Within an estimated time of three seconds, when the throttle is cut or the engine revs to a certain rpm, the starter motor’s ‘Power Assist’ mode is cancelled and the I.C engine takes over the drivetrain. The engine is the same 125cc single-cylinder unit that pumps out 8bhp at 6,500rpm and 10.3Nm of torque at 5,000rpm. Courtesy of the new hybrid tech, the scooter makes marginally more torque over the outgoing model.

Speaking of other features, the 2021 Yamaha Fascino will be offered with an all-LED headlamp with DRL. The addition of connected features, such as ‘Locate My Scooter’ and turning on hazard lamps via smartphone applications will help 2021 Fascino make a stronger case against its rivals in the segment. An all-digital instrument cluster has been added as well.

Existing features such as the side-stand cut-off switch, stop and start system, quiet start system, and a maintenance-free battery, will be carried forward into the new scooter. The Fascino 125 Hybrid will be offered with six new colours and four existing colours will be carried forward.

The prices and the launch timeline of the 2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid have not been revealed yet. We suspect the scooter will make its debut by the festive season, around the same time when Yamaha will launch the updated Ray ZR 125 – Standard and Rally – with the same Hybrid equipment. The current Fascino 125 retails between Rs 74,000-77,500 (ex-showroom), and the updates are expected to make the motorcycle dearer by Rs 5,000 access variants.
