Ather Energy has unveiled the Ather S340 electric scooter.

A Bangalore based Indian mobility solution company, Ather Energy has unveiled an electric scooter like none before. They call lit the Ather S340 and say it’s the first ever ‘smart scooter’.

Ather has said that they have filed fifteen different patent applications for this scooter alone. Apart from the 60km rang eon a single full charge, the Lithium Ion battery pack can charge upto 80% in an under an hour and a top speed of 72km/h. The interesting fact about the scooter is that it has a touch screen dashboard with 24x7 connectivity and on-board navigation.

“The future will be connected and inevitably electric and the Ather S340 has been built as a manifestation of this philosophy,” said Tarun Mehta, CEO & Co-Founder. “It is an unapologetically electric vehicle, it has been designed and built mostly in-house with engineering precision.”

The S340 has an IP67-rated battery pack which charges 80% in 50 min’s in fast charging mode, but can also be charged from any 5A socket as well. The Lithium Ion batteries have a life of around 50,000kms.

Through the S340 mobile app, the user can configure the ride modes like sport or economy, and also set the navigation and sync to the scooters touchscreen system. The S340 will be manufactured in Bangalore. The test rides will begin shortly at experience centres set up by the company. However, the Ather S340 will only be available for online purchase and pre-orders will be open for Bangalore, Chennai and Pune regions in the next quarter of 2016. Ather also promises doorstep delivery and service. The company has also said that they want to partner with the government and private enterprises to set up a public charging infrastructure in every city and take it up as a project to offer its customers.
