The 302R is the first fully faired Benelli offering in India
After a long wait, Benelli seems to be set to bring in the 302R to Indian shores on July 25. Benelli was initially supposed to launch the 302R is December last year but the launch was then postponed. They had to hold on until April and give the motorcycle some updates to ensure that it complies with the new BSIV emission norms. The Italian bike maker finally commenced bookings of the new motorcycle across the country in June.
Although the 302R shares a lot of its components with the naked TNT 300, Benelli hasn’t just slapped on a fairing on the latter. It is, in fact, an all-new motorcycle with a new trellis frame and a completely new design.
Under the fairing, the 302R comes with the same engine as the TNT 300 – a 300cc parallel-twin motor that churns out 37.7bhp of peak power and 26.5Nm of max torque. All of this power is sent to the rear wheel with the help of a 6-speed transmission. Suspension duties are performed by upside down forks up front and a monoshock at the back. The 302R comes fitted with disc brakes at both ends and is assisted by ABS.
We rode the pre-production version of the Benelli 302R in December last year. Considering it not only competes against other parallel-twins like the Kawasaki Ninja 300 as well as the punchy single-cylinder KTM 390 Duke, Benelli will need to price it right. The Italian bike maker is expected to price it around the Rs 3.25 lakh mark.
