This is the last update to the twin-cylinder Panigale as it is about to be replaced by a V4 engine

Just last week Ducati took the wraps off the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition at the Laguna Seca circuit, and now they have launched it in India. The Ducati 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is priced at Rs 59.18 lakhs (ex-showroom). As you’d have figured out by the name, this will be the last Panigale to be powered by the L-twin engine – Ducati will be replacing the L-twin with a V4 that they have developed from their MotoGP endeavours.

As far as the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is concerned, Ducati says it is a ‘celebration of the twin-cylinder Ducati Superbike legacy'. Like most special edition models from Ducati, this one too will come draped in the tricolour livery. Every unit of the Final Edition produced will be numbered.

At the heart of the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is a manic 1,285cc L-twin that is capable of churning out 206.5bhp and 142Nm of torque. Ducati hasn’t just worked on making the engine more powerful but also focused on keeping its weight in check. By fitting the Final Edition with lighter crankshafts, tungsten balancing pads, titanium intake exhaust valves and applying some of more of these weight shedding solutions, Ducati has managed to keep its weight restricted to just 179kg. Thanks to this the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition has a power-to-weight ratio of 1150bhp/ton. Of course, with that kind of power under your seat, you need loads of electronic aids to help you control it. The Final Edition gets cornering ABS, wheelie control, traction control, and the works. Suspension duties are performed by Ohlins at the front as well as at the back.

Much to the delight of fans, Ducati said that the 1299 Panigale Final Edition will not have a limited production run. That being said, with the new model replacing it is expected to be unveiled at EICMA later this year, which means the Final Edition will only be produced for few months before it is pulled off the showroom floor.
