For the first time ever, a motorcycle has been launched with an airbag safety device. Italy’s iconic motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati, has announced the introduction of the Multistrada D-Air. This new model will feature a fully integrated, intelligent system of sensors that connect wirelessly to a Ducati Apparel airbag jacket – manufactured by famous Italian bike apparel firm Dainese. This revolutionary technology takes a significant step forward in motorcycle safety. Combining the expertise of both Ducati and Dainese, the intelligent passive safety system has been designed to use sensors built into the Multistrada’s existing electronics and evaluate the vehicle’s dynamic situation, which will then deploy the airbag when subjected to an accident scenario. The Multistrada D-Air system will be able to analyze the data from the sensors and deploy the airbag inside the rider’s jacket in just 45 milliseconds. This will considerably reduce the risk of injury upon impact. This innovative new Multistradamodel will be available in European Ducati dealerships from May 2014 onwards.
