Registering growth figures of 1.5% and 1.81% respectively in the month of March, Hero MotoCorp and HMSI remained the top two names in the two-wheeler industry.

The sales figures are out and they are not as staggering as we had imagined. Where the market leader – Hero MotoCorp – registered a growth of 1.5% over last March by selling 5,31,750 units in the month of March, the second ranked Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI) reported a growth of 1.81% over March 2014 by selling 3,99,178 units.

Commenting on the new sales figures, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement, “Thanks to a series of measures undertaken by the new government at the centre, the economic outlook is definitely better, and it is likely to fuel growth and help the industry.”

The things were a little different for Honda as its motorcycles’ sales declined by 18.27% to 1,45,508 units last month as compared to 1,78,035 units in March 2014. The two-wheeler maker's scooter sales jumped though by 21.77 per cent to 2,38,919 units from 1,96,191 units sold in March 2014.
