The wait is finally over and the bike that many of us have been dreaming about is finally here. The Royal Enfield Thunderbird was launched for Rs 1,65,708 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and is now powered by a bigger more powerful 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke petrol engine that can pump out 27bhp and 41Nm of torque – it is essentially the same engine found in the RE Classic 500.
The new Thunderbird will be available in three different shades of black and thankfully it also comes with features seen on a Royal Enfield for the first time such as the projector headlamp, digital and analogue instrument console, a massive 20-litre fuel tank, oval-section swingarm, LED Tail-lamps, front and rear disc brakes and bungee anchors to safely attach luggage.
In addition to the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500, RE is also launching a newer improved Thunderbird 350 that will take some of the new features incorporated into the 500, but with the same 350cc engine. There is also a wide range of riding gear that RE has launched including jackets, pants, boots, eye wear and helmets.
