The original Monster 900's production began on 5 March 1993. Over 325,000 Monsters have been made since then.

Ducati has revealed a special edition of the Monster 1200, called 25 Anniversario, to mark the 25th anniversary of the naked motorcycle. Only 500 numbered units of this special edition Monster will be produced.

The 25 Anniversario is characterised by an exclusive livery featuring the three colours of the Italian flag on the nose fairing, fuel tank and passenger seat cover, inspired by the 2008 Monster S4RS Testastretta Tricolore. The seat of the bike is embroidered with the 25th anniversary logo.

The gold coloured frame and forged Marchesini wheels with W spokes in the same colour are another distinguishing feature of this Monster. The brake and clutch levers as well as the plate holder are also made of aluminium, while the front and rear mudguards, keyhole cover and exhaust heat guard are made of carbon fibre. The Monster 1200 25 Anniversario also comes with a bike cover, which boasts the bespoke logo of this special edition.

Suspension duties are handled by Ohlins – fully adjustable fork with 48mm diameter stanchions up front and fully adjustable rear suspension, as well as a steering damper. The braking system consists of two 330mm diameter Brembo discs paired with Brembo M50 monobloc callipers. The rear 245mm diameter disk is matched with a Brembo caliper.

Engine powering the Monster 1200 25 Anniversario is Ducati’s twin-cylinder Testastretta 11° DS unit, which is good for producing 145bhp of max power and 124Nm of peak torque. The electronic package on the bike features three riding modes, Bosch Cornering ABS, Ducati Wheelie Control, traction control and Ducati Quick Shift Up and Down.
