BMW G 310 GS & G 310 R
The BMW G 310 R made its first public appearance in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The naked roadster was designed and developed in Germany, while the company’s Indian partner, TVS, builds the motorcycle at its Hosur plant. The motorcycle gets inverted front forks, ABS as standard, four-piston brake caliper and tubular steel frame. Powering the G 310R is a 313cc, single-cylinder, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine with double overhead camshafts and fuel injection. The engine develops 34bhp of max power and a peak torque of 24Nm. BMW will also launch the G 310 GS model which is an adventure touring motorcycle that’s based on the G 310 R streetfighter. While it remains the same mechanically as the 310 R, given its purpose, the suspension of the G 310 GS comes equipped with 41mm long-travel front forks. The seat height has been increased from 785mm to 835mm. It also gets meaty off-road tyres with a 19-inch front rim. Expect the G 310 GS to be priced marginally higher than its naked sibling.
Ducati Multistrada 950
Meet the all-new Multistrada 950. As its name suggests, it’s a smaller capacity version of Ducati’s flagship adventure-sports Multistrada 1200 range. The Multistrada 950 is powered by a 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta L-twin engine that develops 113bhp and 96Nm of peak torque. The motorcycle gets a number of electronic aids including four riding modes (Touring, Sport, Urban and Enduro), Ducati Safety Pack comprising Bosch 9.1 MP ABS with 3-level adjustment and 8-level Ducati Traction Control, and a lot more.
Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
As you’d expect from a CBR that wears the RR badge, the Fireblade focus continues to remain on supreme handling and impressive performance. The new Fireblade now makes 189bhp which is 10 horses more than the previous-gen model. Torque rating stands at 116Nm. The CBR1000RR Fireblade now tips the scale at just 195kg, 16kg lighter than before. Aside from the updates to the engine, the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade also gets other mechanical updates like Showa 43mm BPFs at the front and Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion shock absorber at the back. The new CBR1000RR also comes with a lot of electronic aids.
Hero HX250R
Hero first showcased this bike in concept form before the 2014 Auto Expo. The bike was designed with the help of Eric Buell Racing but unfortunately the American company had to file for bankruptcy, which led to the project being delayed. However, there are reports that the bike is now ready for production and will be launched this year. This bike sports a 250cc water-cooled unit that produces 31bhp. The bike also weighs just 139 kilograms and comes with disc brakes at both ends, and there is also an option for ABS. Expect it to be priced under Rs. 2 lakh.
KTM 200/390 Duke
Next year, KTM will be bringing in the 2017 390 Duke model here. Updates include an all-new trellis frame and a completely new design featuring split LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps along with a sharper and more compact proportion. Powertrain remains unchanged – it will come powered by a 373.2cc single-cylinder engine developing 43bhp and 37Nm of peak torque. Apart from that, it also gets bigger front disc, ride-by-wire throttle, Bluetooth connectivity and a TFT multi-colour instrument cluster. Dual-channel ABS and slipper clutch will continue to be offered. The 200 Duke will also be launched next year. Although it will look identical to the 390 Duke, it will have a few less features.
Benelli TRK 502
On its launch, the TRK 502 will be the only middle-weight adventure-tourer in the Indian market. To be launched around the Rs. 5 lakh mark, expect the TRK 502 to be the most affordable adventure-tourer in India. The TRK 502 comes with a 500cc parallel twin unit that makes peak power of 47bhp and max torque of 45Nm. The TRK 502 will come fitted with long travel suspension, adjustable monoshock at the back, a 20-litre fuel tank, tall windscreen and more such features to ensures it lives up to its DNA.
Triumph Speed Triple
Spy shots of the new 2017 Speed Triple have been making their rounds on the internet for a while. The new Speed Triple will sport cosmetic as well as mechanical changes. If the spy shots are anything to go by, the Speed Triple will get better brakes. The British bike maker seems to have added ram air system to the 1,050cc three-pot motor. With that addition, the new Speed Triple might make more power and torque than its predecessor. Overall, the new 2017 Speed Triple is sure to be better than its predecessor in every way.
TVS Akula 310 / Apache 300
Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, the production version of the TVS Akula 310 concept will be reaching the showrooms in the first quarter of 2017. As per some reports, the Akula 310 will be renamed as Apache 300, but it will be built on the same platform as the BMW G 310 R. It will be powered by the same 313cc motor, but with a slightly lower power output. Unlike the G 310 R, the Apache 300 will be a fully-faired bike. The Apache 300 will compete against the likes of the KTM RC390 and Honda CBR250R in our market.
Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0
It has been a while since Yamaha has given its R15 an update. Expect Yamaha to v3.0 R15 to sport a lot of cosmetic updates. At the heart of things there will be some easily noticeable changes too. While details of the upcoming R15 are still sketchy, it is sure to come with new-age features like Daytime Running Lights, ABS, and even projector headlamps. Yamaha has already introduced the V2.0 with automatic headlamp and they are sure to carry forward the feature in the new iteration. Expect the Yamaha YZF-R15 to be priced marginally higher than the current-generation model.
Kawasaki Z900
Kawasaki is also likely to replace the Z800 with the Z900. Images of the Z900 were leaked a few days prior to its official unveil at 2016 EICMA. In terms of design, the Z900 remains in line with the rest of the Z models. It employs a 948cc inline four-cylinder unit that makes peak power of 125bhp and max torque of 98.6Nm. The current generation Z800 makes 111bhp and 83Nm. Kawasaki has also upgraded the brakes on the Z900. Despite all the additions in equipment, the Z900 sheds 21kg and tips the scales at 210kg.
