Tata Motors has achieved a significant sales milestone with regard to its passenger electric vehicles, and that makes the manufacturer the largest EV maker in India.

Tata Motors has reported that the manufacturer has sold over 10,000 EVs in India. Tata Motors also holds over 70 per cent of the passenger electric vehicles market share (YTD FY22) making it the largest domestic EV manufacturer.

Tata Motors also reported EV sales of 1,000 units in the month of August 2021. Since January 2021, Tata Nexon EV has been contributing to the overall Nexon sales figures by up to 20 per cent.

On achieving the 10,000 rollout milestone, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, 'The achievement of 10,000 EVs on road is a strong testament to how our innovative electric vehicles are resonating well with customers. We are proud to have lived up to the high expectations of the early EV adopters and are thankful to them for their continued trust in the brand. These customers have laid a strong foundation for EV ownership to further expand and have created a path for other prospective buyers to follow.'

Recently, Tata Motors launched the Tigor EV in India for prices starting at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Along with the introduction of the new sub-compact EV sedan, the firm rebranded the older Tigor EV as the Xpres-T EV, which is now targeted towards fleet buyers.

The brand is also expanding its ecosystem by setting up 700 charging points across 120 cities in India. The next EV from Tata is likely to be the Altroz EV that will mainly share the underpinnings with the Nexon EV. expect the Tata Altroz EV by early 2022.
