The sub-compact sedan has been priced starting Rs 4.7 lakh for the base petrol trim and Rs 7.09 lakh for the top-spec diesel.

Last year, Tata unveiled to the press and public a new sub-compact sedan – Kite 5 at the Auto Expo. Earlier this year, the company christened it as the Tigor, unveiled its production-spec version the Geneva Motor Show and has now, launched it in the Indian market. In the Indian scenario, the Tata Tigor, like the Indigo CS before it, falls in a peculiar class. While it doesn’t quite compete with the compact sedans like the Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire and the likes, neither is it a hatchback. That being said, considering the price that it has been launched at, the Tata Tigor will lock horns against some of the mid-sized hatchbacks. Read our review of the Tata Tigor from our recent test drive, here..

The Tigor is based on the same platform as its hatchback sibling Tiago. This means the Tigor will come with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor that develops 83bhp and 114Nm. The diesel on the other hand, is a 1.05-litre 3-pot motor churning out 69bhp and 140Nm. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. While the Tiago has recently been launched with an AMT option, there is still no word if it will make it to the Tigor as well.

In terms of design, the Tigor is among some of the better sub-4 metre sedans in the market. From up front, the Tigor looks identical to the Tiago but it is at the back where it easily sets itself apart. In fact, Tata isn’t calling the Tigor a sedan but is billing it as a styleback. On the inside, the Tigor shares its dashboard with the Tiago and gets a 5-icnh touchscreen infotainment system. While the Tiago came well equipped for a car in its class, the Tigor will take the game further. Over and above the features that the hatchback has, this sub-compact sedan comes with projector headlamps, automatic climate control, reversing camera and more. Tata offers the Tigor with six exterior colour options and for trim levels - XE, XT, XZ and XZ (O).
