Toyota took the wraps off the Fortuner face-lift earlier in the year in June. Now, the company is all set to launch it in India on 6th January. The facelifted model gets quite a few changes to the exterior design. At the front, it loses the twin-slat chrome grille and gets a subtler redesigned grille. The Fortuner also gets LED headlamps with DRLs, and the front bumper has been reshaped too, giving it a sportier stance. From the side, the Fortuner will look more or less similar to the pre-facelift model with the exception of newly designed alloy wheels. Changes are the rear are limited to new LED taillamps.

The interior of the 2021 Fortuner will continue to look identical to the model it replaces with the exception of a few changes. The full-sized SUV will not get a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Globally, the Fortuner facelift also gets an updated instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera and electrically adjustable driver and co-driver seats.

In the Thai market, the Fortuner continues to be offered with 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engine options. The 2.8-litre diesel Fortuner is offered in the 201bhp and 500Nm in Thailand, whereas in India the pre-facelift was offered in the 174bhp/450Nm tune. It remains to be seen which one will be launched in the Indian market. Entry-level variants are likely to continue with the 2.7-litre petrol option that produces 164bhp and 245Nm. Both engine options will come with manual and automatic options.

The Fortuner currently starts at Rs 28.66 lakh for the base petrol and goes right up to Rs 34.43 lakh for the top-end diesel. Expect the facelifted model to demand a premium given the updates and increased features. The Fortuner face-lift will compete against the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the MG Gloster.
