Audi has unveiled the all new A5 Coupe and the S5 Coupe with new technology and updated powertrains.

The space between the Audi A4 and the Audi A6 sedans is bridged by a the A5. Now the new Audi A5 coupe and a more powerful sporty S5 Coupe have made their world premiere.

The new intelligent multi-material construction makes the new car 60kg lighter that the old model making it the lightest in segment. The exterior has been redesigned in addition to the interior that has all the latest new technology Audi has been featuring in all its new cars.

Currently A5 Coupe will get five engine options – two petrol TFSI engines and three TDI diesel engines. All the engines have been refined to provide more performance with power outputs from the engines ranging from around 190hp – 286hp in addition to being 22% more economical by using less fuel. The most powerful engine in the A5 is the 3.0-litre TDI six-cylinder engine that develops 286hp. The S5 Coupe on the other hand gets a brand new 3.0-litre TFSI V6 that develops 345hp and can do 0-100km/h in about 4.7 seconds.

The A5 will get a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission for all the four cylinder engines and the 218hp, 3.0-litre TDI engine with front or all-wheel-drive options. The 8-Speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox is reserved for the 286hp 3.0-litre six-cylinder TDI and the S5 Coupe. Both the S5 and the top TDI engine come with Quattro all-wheel-drive system as standard. But ticking the optional rear-axle sport differential will provide more sideways action if required on track for a little more fun. The new Quattro with ultra technology can be equipped on the A5 but only on the four cylinder manual options for the time being.

The new A5 / S5 Coupe’s chassis has been tuned to provide better comfort while also having enough stiffness to be agile. As an option, Audi will also fit the car with adaptable damper option for the suspension to be tuned from the car’s ‘Drive Select’ feature. While the steering rack is electro-mechanical, Audi can also equip the car with an optional ‘Dynamic Steering’ which varies its gear ratio depending on the speed and steering angle.

The interiors of the new coupe from Audi is laced with luxury and technology. Only the best materials have been used and are available in a wide array of colours to chose from. With a longer wheelbase from the outgoing model, the A5 / S5 Coupe’s cabin is more spacious and the designing of the airvents in the wide shape give it a more spacious feel to the passengers. The new A5 / S5 Coupe comes with interior aeroacoustics as standard. Ambient lighting with 30 changeable shades, will be provided as an optional extra.

All variants will get a standard 8.3 inch monitor with the Audi MMI system with Navigation and Drive select. But the Virtual Cockpit with the 12.3-inch TFT screen in place of the instrument cluster will be an option.

The A5 and the S5 Coupe will go on sale in the United Kingdom later this year. However for the Indian market, it seems slightly unlikely the the A5 and the S5 Coupe would be arriving anytime soon. It is possible that later on in the car’s life cycle, a Sportback version will be introduced for the four-door markets like India. But Audi might just surprise us.
