Mercedes-Benz updates 2.0 litre engine variants of the E-Class to make them BS 6 compliant. The updated models also feature a revised equipment list.

Mercedes-Benz became the first car maker in India to launch a BS 6 compatible car in India last year with the S-Class diesel. Beating the market to it, the German luxury car major has now updated its E-Class model range with BS 6 compliant 2.0 litre petrol and diesel engines. Both models are powered by the same 2.0 litre engines which have now been updated to meet BS 6 emissions norms. The petrol model is powered by a 1,991cc, four cylinder engine good for 197hp and 320Nm while the diesel model is powered by a 1,950cc four cylinder engine developing 194hp and 400Nm. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Alongside the emissions update, Mercedes has fit the updated versions of the E-Class with a few more features such as a Burmester surround sound system, a new 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, a rear seat touchpad and wireless phone charging for Qi standard compatible devices.

Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Mercedes-Benz India rolled-out India’s first ‘Made in India, for India’ BS 6 vehicle in January 2018. Since then, we have been steadily transitioning our portfolio into BS 6 and the introduction of the BS 6 Long Wheelbase E-Class reiterates our commitment towards the new emission norms from April 2020. The New BS 6 E-Class will fulfil the desire for individuals seeking driving performance, while ensuring it presents the most luxurious rear cabin experience, comprising unparalleled luxury appointments, for those preferring to be chauffeur driven. The new BS 6 Long Wheelbase E-Class offers a very intriguing value proposition for the customer with a competitive total cost of ownership that starts at just INR 67,800! We are very confident that the new long wheelbase BS 6 E-Class will continue its success story and remain a growth driver for Mercedes-Benz in India.”

Prices for BS 6 compliant variants of the E-Class range between Rs. 57.50 lakh to Rs. 62.50 lakh, ex-showroom.

Mercedes-Benz, for now, has not updated the more powerful E350d and AMG models of the E-Class to make them BS 6 compliant.
