All examples of the Bugatti Divo are already spoken for.

At ‘The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering’ in Monterey, California Bugatti has taken the wraps off their new lightweight and agile hypercar called the Bugatti Divo.

The Chiron and all the iterations of the Veyron that preceded it have always been considered amazing cars. Their ability to reach mind-boggling speeds in a straight line in the calmest manner possible is still unparalleled to an extent. However, their ability to tackle corners was never a strong suit. Which is why Bugatti decided to build a new car which could deliver on that front… and more.

To pay homage to their history of coachbuilding, Bugatti decided to make a new lighter, and more agile car with the same amount of power The result is the newly introduced Bugatti Divo, named after Albert Divo, a French racing driver who was a two-time winner of the famous Targa Florio race on the mountainous roads of Sicily with Bugatti in the late 1920s.

Though it is still based upon the underpinnings of the Chiron, the Divo is 35 kilogrammes lighter, generates 90 kilogrammes of additional downforce, capable of a limited top speed of 380km/h and can achieve lateral acceleration of 1.6 g. All of the upgrades have allowed the Divo to be a full eight seconds faster than the Chiron around the Nardò handling circuit.

Powering it is still the same 8.0-litre, quad-turbo, W16 engine that produces 1,479bhp. But the chassis has been fine-tuned intensively and so is the new aero package. The suspension has been reworked as well. In order to make the Divo more agile, Bugatti added more camber to the wheels and limited the top speed. Therefore, it does not get the ‘Top Speed’ mode like the Chiron.  The weight saving has been done by new lightweight wheels and a carbon fibre intercooler cover. Additionally, the front diffuser flaps are now fixed so the removal of the mechanicals has also been shaved off. On top of that, the amount of insulation materials has been reduced along with a new employment of a lighter sound system. Storage compartments in the centre console and the door trims have also been discarded.

‘To date, a modern Bugatti has represented a perfect balance between high performance, straight-line dynamics and luxurious comfort. Within our possibilities, we have shifted the balance in the case of the Divo further towards lateral acceleration, agility and cornering,’ Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. He added ‘The Divo is made for bends.’

Lucky Chiron customers were given a preview of the Divo prior to its debut, and Bugatti claims that all 40 examples of the €5 million road-legal hypercar were sold out immediately.
