With the arrival of yet another American performance icon, the Chevrolet Corvette, the Ford Mustang is finally set to get a worthy competitor in the Indian market.

The Indian automotive industry witnessed an unprecedented move in 2017 when General Motors (GM) decided to wrap up its operations and exit the Indian market. While industry veterans will tell you that the move was inevitable, it was nevertheless a big blow to the Chevrolet customers in the country who felt abandoned and helpless.

Well, things are about to change for the better, as our inside sources have told us that GM is planning to make a comeback to the Indian market by resurrecting the Chevrolet brand. However, the scenario will be quite different this time around. For its second inning, Chevrolet aims to come back as a small-scale brand. That's why it will bring just one model, to start with. But it won't be a hatchback (like the Beat) or an SUV (like the Trailblazer) or a sedan (like the Sail or the Cruze) for that matter.

In fact, it's going to go all-guns-blazing by debuting its 495bhp Corvette C8 Stingray supercar in India. For those not aware, the C8 Stingray is the first Corvette in history to ditch the FR configuration (Front Engine, Rear-Wheel-Drive) for a mid-ship layout. It made its international debut in July 2019. By just bringing a CBU unit to the country, GM will not have to re-invest in setting up manufacturing or assembly plants in India. Details about the launch and the number of units of the Corvette coming to India are yet to be confirmed.

Once the Corvette arrives in India, it will go up against another American V8 muscle car icon – the Ford Mustang, which is also due for an update this year. While the 2020 Mustang was initially planned for an April 2020 debut in India, the ongoing Coronavirus crisis is likely to force Ford to delay the launch.

While we're sure this piece of news will cause a wave of excitement amongst our readers, we sincerely hope that you had a very good time falling for another one of our April Fool's prank!
