Not everyone can afford a McLaren P1, and surely not its powerful (and expensive) track-only variant P1 GTR. But fear not, the Woking based squad has another sportscar that’s relatively cheaper but one that can still challenge the best in its class.

Say hello to the 675 LT -  the lightest, most powerful, and the fastest car in McLaren’s Super Series. It retains its carbon fibre MonoCell chassis, but features an upgraded powertrain, with power output now increased to 666bhp. That’s six more horses than Ferrari’s 488 GTB - also unveiled at this very venue yesterday.

The power from its 3.8-litre turbocharged engine is transmitted through the familiar seven speed gearbox found on other Super Series models. What’s new is the ‘Ignition Cut’ technology adopted from Formula 1 which sees a momentary cut of the fuel spark on gearshift, allowing for a faster gear change.

The car carries the longtail legacy from the 1997 F1 GTR, with the front and rear track widened by 20mm. Both front and rear springs have been stiffened, ensuring optimised stability and handling.

The 675 LT will be offered in five colour schemes – Silica White, Delta Red, Napier Green, Chicane Grey as well as the heritage McLaren Orange. 500 models will go on sale from July this year with a price tag of £259,500.
