The much awaited Isuzu MU-X SUV has finally gone on sale in India. Priced between Rs 23.99 lakh and Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the MU-X replaces the ageing MU-7 SUV and will compete against established rivals such as the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.

Based on the same platform as the D-Max V-Cross, the MU-X has been selling in global markets for some time now. However, this is the first time that it’s entering India. Isuzu recently gave the MU-X a thorough makeover in other global markets, although, surprisingly the firm has launched the pre-facelift model in India. That said, the MU-X looks significantly better and more butch than its predecessor. Speaking of its design, the MU-X has a more aggressive and rugged stance over the outgoing MU-7. Among some of its aesthetic elements, it has a prominent double-slate grille, LED DRLs and projector lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, etc.

Inside, the cabin looks upmarket and packs a raft of new features. The interior has a dual-tone theme, and it’s highlighted by a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that doubles up as a reverse parking camera. Other features include automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a rear roof mounted 10-inch entertainment screen, steering mounted controls with cruise control, rear AC vents across all three rows (it's a seven-seater, etc.

The India-spec MU-X is available with a 3.0-litre diesel engine that develops 175bhp of max power along with 380Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and is offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. The 4x2 powertrain has a claimed fuel economy of 13.8km/l.

On the safety front, the vehicle is equipped with ABS with EBD, ESC, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist and ISOFIX seats among other things.

The Isuzu MU-X will be produced locally at the firm's production facility in Andhra Pradesh for sale in domestic market.
