Minimum booking amount of Rs 50,000

Just a few weeks back, Jeep rolled off the first-ever India made Compass from the Fiat factory in Ranjangaon. The company has now commenced pre-launch bookings of the compact SUV with a minimum booking amount of Rs 50,000. Jeep is yet to announce the official launch date of the new Compass but expect it to be on sale by August.

Announcing the opening of bookings, Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India said, “To harness the great demand for the Jeep Compass, we have executed a customer outreach across 21 cities at 26 shopping malls across India. We are already receiving overwhelming response to our new SUV. We have pulled out all stops to deliver the highest quality standard on the Jeep Compass and we are here to set a benchmark in the Indian SUV space. Customers will experience first-hand, the level of sophistication in the vehicle.”

Jeep Compass review 2017

The Compass will be the fourth car to be sold by Jeep in India apart from the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and the Grand Cherokee SRT. In terms of design, the Compass is like a smaller version of the Grand Cherokee. Up front, it has the signature seven-slot front grille inspired from its larger sibling, the squared wheel arches trademark of the Jeep brand, and short overhangs to make it suitable off the road. In terms of features, the Compass gets a touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, gray leather upholstery with contrast red stitching, automatic headlamps with Daytime Running Lights and more. Safety-wise the Jeep Compass will come with 6 airbags, ABS and ESP.

At the heart of things, the India-spec Jeep Compass will come with two engine options – a 160bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol motor that comes mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and a 2.0-litre MultiJet unit that only comes with a manual transmission option. The diesel engine is good for 170bhp and 350Nm.

The Jeep Compass is expected to be launched in August. When launched it is likely to demand around Rs 18-25 lakhs and at that price point, it will hold its own against the Hyundai Tucson.
