Bookings for the Kia Carens will open on January 14 and its launch is expected in Q1 2022.
Kia will be opening bookings for the Carens MPV on January 14, and the Korean carmaker has revealed a handful of details about it. It will be available in five trims – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus.
The MPV will be offered with the same engine options as the Seltos – a 1.5-litre (113bhp/144Nm) naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine (138bhp/242Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (113bhp/250Nm). As far as transmissions are concerned, a 6-speed manual is standard with all the engines, whereas the turbo-petrol and diesel motor also get the options of a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed torque converter, respectively.
As far as safety is concerned, Kia seems to be going all out on the Carens. Six airbags will be offered on all variants of the MPV, along with 9 other safety features which include traction control, ESP, hill assist control and disc brakes on all wheels.
Apart from the robust safety package, Kia will also offer premium features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen with full smartphone connectivity, a Bose sound system (8 speakers), wireless charging, cooled cupholders, 64-colour ambient lighting, an air purifier with virus and bacteria protection, ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, drive modes, electric tumble assist for the second-row seat, and a sunroof.
Kia will offer the Carens in 8 different colour options – Clear White, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Sparkling Silver (New), Moss Brown (New) and Imperial Blue (New).
Once launched, the Carens will rival its platform sibling, the Hyundai Alcazar, and other cars like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. We expect the Kia Carens to be priced between Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
