Bookings for the Kia Sonet can be made either online on Kia's website or at any Kia dealership across India for ₹25,000.

Kia Motors India (KMI) had revealed the production-spec Sonet sub-4m compact SUV on 7th August, and today, the pre-launch order books for KMI's third product have been thrown open. The booking amount is set at ₹25,000 for both online and dealership. While there's some time left before the Sonet's prices are revealed, more details about its powertrain & variant options have surfaced online.

Like the Hyundai Venue, the Sonet will also be offered with three engine options. However, these three engines will be paired with five gearbox options, and in total, the Sonet will have five powertrain combinations – the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated (non-turbo) petrol motor paired to a five-speed manual, the 1.0-litre Turbo (T-GDi) petrol paired to a 6-speed clutchless iMT unit or a seven-speed DCT automatic, and the 1.5-litre CRDi diesel unit will get a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic. This will make the Sonet the only sub-4m compact SUV to go on sale with a proper diesel automatic option.

Irrespective of the gearbox (iMT or 7DCT), the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder T-GDi unit in the Sonet will develop close to 118bhp & 172Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol motor, on the other hand, will be good for about 82bhp & 115Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel, however, will be offered in two states of tune. With the six-speed manual, it will develop a healthy 99bhp & 240Nm, but with the six-speed automatic gearbox, the power & torque figures will go up to 113bhp & 250Nm, respectively.

As for the variants & trim options, there will be six trim levels on offer with the Kia Sonet – five from the Tech Line (HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+) and one from the GT Line (GTX+). The GTX+ trim will be the range-topping fully-loaded option. Couple these with powertrain options and the Kia Sonet will have up to 17 variants to choose from. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether all variants will be offered right from the day of the car's launch.
