Maruti Suzuki Ignis all set to go on sale in January 2017. When launched, the Ignis will become the third offering from the company's Nexa premium channel.

Roughly a year after being showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is all set to go on sale in the country. The Ignis will be the third offering after the S-Cross and Baleno hatchback to be sold from the firm’s premium Nexa outlets. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming car,

Design: The Ignis is not a hatchback but more of a mini-crossover. Although it’s based around the same platform as the Baleno hatchback, it has a higher ride height and more ground clearance to tackle the country’s bad road network. Dimension wise, the Ignis is a sub-4m crossover (it’s 3,700mm long and 1,690mm wide) and has a wheelbase of 2,435mm. The interior of the Ignis is going to be completely different from current Maruti Suzuki cars. It will have an all-new dashboard featuring a large centre display screen. As is the case with all the recent Maruti cars, expect the Ignis to come loaded with a lot of features.

Engine & Transmission: Powering the Ignis will be the same 83bhp/115Nm rated 1.2-litre petrol engine as of the Baleno hatchback. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual, while a CVT auto is also expected. The diesel variant will also get the same 1.3-litre DDIS engine from the Baleno developing 74bhp and 190Nm of torque - it will come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A version fitted with the new 1.0 BoosterJet turbocharged petrol may also be introduced with the Ignis upon its market arrival.

In international markets, the Ignis is available with front-wheel as well as all-wheel drive. However, the chances of the latter being offered in India are really slim.

Launch Date: Maruti Suzuki has already added the Ignis to the company’s official Nexa website. The Ignis is expected to go on sale mid-January 2017 onwards across the country.

Expected Price: The Ignis is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale.
