The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to be launched in India sooner than expected. The brand has been releasing teasers, which confirm that the arrival of a new SUV is inevitable.
Maruti Suzuki has released a teaser on its social network handle, which hints that the next product from the brand will be an SUV. Now keeping aside the fact that Maruti Suzuki could market its upcoming hatchback, the new Celerio, as a micro-SUV, there are good chances that the carmaker is strongly considering launching the Jimny in India this year.
The teaser has been released from the brand’s Nexa handle, which in turn means that the new SUV – most likely the Maruti Suzuki Jimny – will be positioned as a premium product or, more precisely, as a lifestyle product.
Internationally, Suzuki sells the Jimny in multiple body styles, which range from a three-door SUV to a pick-up. When launched in India, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will most likely debut with a longer wheelbase compared to the international-spec model. However, it will continue to have a three-door body type. Suzuki has been testing the five-door model overseas, and it is likely to be launched in India as well.
The powertrain option will include a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol motor, which we are familiar with in other Maruti Suzuki cars such as the S-Cross, Ciaz, and XL6. The Jimny will be equipped with a transfer box 4X4 system. The gearbox options will include a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic.
Benefiting from child part sharing, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will likely have a substantially lower introductory price compared to its key rival, the Mahindra Thar (petrol).
