Brezza Launch

Maruti Suzuki's first ever sub-4m SUV finally goes on sale in India. Prices start at Rs 6.99 lakh, undercutting the competition by a fair margin.

After making its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been launched in India. Like seen with the Baleno earlier, Maruti Suzuki has got the pricing spot on this time around as well – the Vitara Brezza is priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.68 lakh (both ex-showroom, New Delhi). Available only with a diesel engine as of now, the compact-SUV will lock horns with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV3OO in the market.

While the Vitara Brezza is underpinned by Suzuki’s Global C platform, it is claimed to be designed and developed entirely by the company’s in-house R&D team in India. Parts localization of 98 per cent has been achieved in manufacturing of the car – one of the many reasons why it’s been priced so aggressively. Coming to the design of the car, the Brezza looks aggressive without being overtly obnoxious or in-your-face.

The front-end sports a thick chrome grille with small air-passages, a beefy bumper that houses a central air-dam and faux silver skid plate in the centre and turn-indicators mounted just above the fog-lamps. The side-profile further accentuates the compact dimensions of the car with its short overhangs. Blacked-out pillars, square wheel-arches, 16-inch wheels, split tail-lamps etc., complete the visual highlights on the new compact-SUV. Maruti is also offering the Vitara Brezza in dual-tone exterior shades on the top-end variant.

Inside, the cabin is inspired by the S-Cross, Baleno et al, featuring an all-black theme with silver inserts. In terms of features and equipment, the compact-SUV is well kitted out. Among some of the features, the Brezza gets a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, inbuilt navigation, rear parking camera, auto headlamps, keyless start/stop, cruise control, mood lighting, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, Bluetooth and voice control, etc. Projector headlamps are also offered on the car, which is a segment first feature.

Powering the Vitara Brezza is the Fiat-derived tried and tested 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. For the compact-SUV, the company is using the higher engine tune that also does duty in the S-Cross and Ciaz. The engine develops 88bhp @ 4,000 rpm and 200NM @ 1,750Nm. Power is transmitted to front-wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Vitara Brezza returns a claimed fuel economy of 24.3km/l.

Driver airbag is offered as standard, while customers can also opt for passenger airbag, ABS and EBD from the base variant onwards.

The Vitara Brezza will be sold through regular Maruti Suzuki outlets, and not Nexa dealerships.

Variant-wise prices of the New Vitara Brezza are as follows,

LDi - Rs 6.99 lakh
LDi (O) - Rs 7.12 lakh
VDi - Rs 7.62 lakh
VDi (O) - Rs 7.75 lakh
ZDi - Rs 8.55 lakh
ZDi+ - Rs 9.54 lakh
ZDi+ dual-tone - Rs 9.64 lakh

All prices are indicative of ex-showroom, New Delhi
