Amid all the brouhaha, we sit down and figure out what really sets the upcoming MG Hector apart from its segment competitors.
The new MG Hector has created a lot of buzz and it’s all set to enter the market by the end of this month (June). The Hector will have its hands full as it takes on the likes of the Tata Harrier, the Jeep Compass, 7-seater Mahindra XUV500 and will even try to convert potential Hyundai Creta buyers into MG owners. To make the Hector stand apart from the competition, MG has ensured that the new SUV comes fully loaded with loads of segment-first features. Let’s take a look at Hector’s top 5 exclusive features.
1. I-Smart connectivity with embedded SIM
The concept behind this technology is quite simple. Like your smartphone, the Hector comes with an embedded SIM from Airtel, which ensures that there’s always internet connectivity. The SIM is also 5G-ready and provides over-the-air (OTA) or wireless software updates for the Hector. The Hector comes with MG’s i-Smart Technology app that gives you information like how much range does the SUV have, the location of the SUV, switch on/off the air conditioner, lock and unlock the car as well as the sunroof remotely.
2. 10.4-inch HD touchscreen
The Hector’s 10.4-inch infotainment system is the biggest in its segment. From the vertically shaped touchscreen, one can get access to more than fifty i-Smart connectivity features. It also gets an in-built navigation system by TomTom with live traffic updates. The system is preloaded with apps like Gaana and AccuWeather apart from the usual suspects like the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also watch videos on the infotainment system. Moving on to the music system, the Hector gets an 8-speaker Infinity music system that comes with an amplifier and a sub-woofer.
3. The 48V mild-hybrid system
The 48V mild-hybrid system is only available with the 141bhp 1.5L turbocharged petrol powerplant as a variant. According to MG Motor India, this system reduces the CO2 emissions by 11 per cent and increases the fuel economy by 12 per cent. The mild-hybrid system provides up to 20Nm of additional torque to negate any turbo lag at low speeds or for better acceleration in slow moving traffic.
4. All LED lighting
The Hector comes only with LED lamps, may it be front, rear and even the fog lights. The indicators on the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are also LED lights. Both the front and rear lights get dynamic LED indicators, quite similar to Audi.
5. Powered Tailgate
The Hector’s big tailgate can be opened or shut with a press of a button. It also features height adjustment and allows you to set the height and the angle of the boot's opening.
