Most of us might have forgotten Mitsubishi's presence in India. To remind us that the Pajero lineage is still very much alive, the Japanese carmaker launched the Pajero Sport 4x2 automatic at Rs 23.55 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The 4X4 manual variant, which has received a minor makeover, is priced at Rs 23.80 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The facelift includes all chrome grille in the front and a redesigned bumper with new fog lamps.
Both the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport manual and automatic are powered by the 2.5 litre, 16-valve, intercooled, turbocharged DOHC engine. Both variants have identical power output of 178 PS at 4000 RPM, but the manual has a higher torque of 400Nm between 2000 to 2500 RPM, while the automatic has a 350Nm of torque. Keep in mind the automatic is lighter by 105kg.
Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic gearbox and the AT comes with steering mounted paddle shifters. The 4x4 manual version, on the other hand, is mated with a conventional five-speed manual transmission.
The SUV's cabin now comes with a 2-DIN audio system with navigation and DVD player, reverse parking camera and an automatic climate control. The Pajero Sport will be available in five body colours - White Solid, Cool Silver Metallic, Titanium Gray Metallic, Black Mica and Deep Blue Mica. Like the manual version, the automatic will also be assembled locally at the Tiruvallur facility in Tamil Nadu.
The Pajero Sport AT will now take on might of the Toyota Fortuner and the suave Hyundai Santa Fe.
