With the official unveiling of the X2, X3 and X4 out of the way, BMW is now focusing its attention on the upcoming X5. The new-generation X5 is set to make its debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. Spy shots of the X5 have been making rounds on the internet for a while. BMW has now released some teaser images of the car.

While these images too are of a car under wraps, certain details are visible and some others are obvious. Like all other Bimmers on sale today, this one too gets that kidney grille up front. It isn’t as large as the one on the X7, but it isn’t by any means small either. The new X5 will also get LED headlamps and taillights. Other noticeable design elements are split air intakes up front, twin exhaust mufflers at the back and smart looking alloy wheels.

This fourth-generation X5 is based on the same platform as the 5 Series. The Cluster Architecture (CLAR) has helped the 5 Series shed considerable weight from its previous iteration – in the new X5, it's expected to be no different. This should also result in an improved efficiency. Aside from the platform, the X5 will also share its engine options with the 5 Series. Expect it to come fitted with four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel motors. If the newer BMW offerings are anything to go by, the X5 too is likely to be packed with technological wizardry.

The highest selling model in BMW’s X range may be the X1, but the X5 has always been equally important for the brand. The Munich-based carmaker registered a sale of 1.8 lakh units of the X5 last year – a growth rate of 8.8 percent. Moreover, it meant a contribution of 8.7 percent in the brand’s global sales, and that's indeed quite commendable.
