The all-electric MGS5 has secured a top-tier 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP after undergoing a comprehensive round of crash and safety evaluations. Built with a strong emphasis on real-world crash protection and equipped with advanced driver assistance technologies, the S5 EV delivered a solid performance across all tested parameters. Notably, the vehicle earned impressive safety scores, with 90% for Adult Occupant Protection, 82% for Child Occupant Protection, 82% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 78% for Safety Assist. This achievement highlights MG’s progress in the EV market and positions the S5 as a compelling choice for buyers prioritising safety. Commenting on the results, Euro NCAP Programme Director, Aled Williams, said: 'Congratulations to MG for a well-deserved five-star rating for the MGS5 EV. Euro NCAP continues to push manufacturers to strive for the highest levels of safety, and it is rewarding that MG has responded so positively, with excellent performance across all areas of occupant and partner protection.'
The S5 test mule was equipped with MG Pilot, the brand's suite of advanced driver aid features. During the frontal offset crash, the cabin structure remained intact, with dummy data showing effective protection for the driver’s and front passenger’s knees and thigh areas.
However, some dashboard components on the driver’s side could potentially cause injury to occupants of varying sizes or seating positions, which resulted in a deduction in the safety score. The vehicle also includes measures aimed at reducing injury between occupants in such collisions. The airbags performed well, providing strong protection to front occupants.

In rear-impact testing, the front seats and head restraints showed good whiplash injury prevention, and the rear seat design also contributed positively. The vehicle’s doors are designed to be accessible even in cases of submersion, allowing occupants to escape safely.
The autonomous emergency braking system effectively responded to other vehicles during testing, and the driver monitoring system is standard equipment. Additionally, the lane-keeping assist activates in more critical situations, and the speed assistance system accurately recognises local speed limits, as verified by the crash tests.
Borrowing styling cues from the Cyberster GT, the MG S5 EV presents a modern aesthetic highlighted by metallic side accents, a divided front grille, and slim LED daytime lights. The EV is available in a range of six paint finishes, including striking tones like Piccadilly Blue and Dynamic Red.
