New and Old Tesla Model Y

The upcoming Tesla Model Y has been spotted wrapped in camouflage, parked alongside the previous-generation version, offering a glimpse of its design updates. This sighting marks a significant moment for Tesla’s presence in the Indian market, hinting at the brand’s readiness to expand its global EV footprint. The new Model Y features subtle styling revisions, likely part of a broader refresh aimed at enhancing its appeal ahead of the official launch. Its placement next to the older model highlights key exterior changes and previews what potential buyers can expect. With Tesla’s plans for localised production and the continued growth of EV infrastructure in India, this test mule suggests the new Model Y may be nearing its launch.

Tesla Model Y: Appearance

Tesla’s much-anticipated Model Y is edging closer to hitting Indian roads, marking a major milestone for the brand’s expansion into the country. While the electric crossover is offered in three versions internationally, Tesla is likely to introduce just the rear-wheel drive and long-range AWD variants in India to begin with.

The Model Y recently underwent a significant overhaul, with its design fine-tuned for both visual impact and aerodynamic performance. The reprofiled bumpers help reduce drag to 0.22 Cd, while a new ducktail spoiler and sportier diffuser lend the SUV a more assertive stance. The front end has been modernised with sharper, streamlined headlamps connected by a sleek light strip, and the rear now wears a full-width red LED light bar, echoing cues from the revamped Model 3.

Enhancements also include new air vents, a front-facing camera, and integrated indicators on the wing mirrors. Wheel options are expected to include 19-inch black alloys and 20-inch silver-finished units, while the colour range will likely cover six shades, including Pearl White, Stealth Grey, Ultra Red, and Diamond Black.

Tesla Model Y: Battery and Range

Globally, the Model Y’s AWD setup is paired with a long-range battery pack, offering an EPA-estimated 526 km of range, a top speed of 200km/h, and a 0–96km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds.

Tesla Model Y: Interior

Inside, the cabin has taken a step up in technology and comfort. Buyers can choose between an all-black or black-and-white interior theme, both featuring updated ambient lighting, ventilated seats, a larger 15.4-inch infotainment display with slim bezels, and a dedicated 8-inch screen for rear passengers. Materials have been refined, while recalibrated suspension and improved steering response elevate the driving experience. Tesla has also introduced acoustic glass to minimise cabin noise.

Key features include power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation, a 15-speaker audio system with subwoofer, hands-free tailgate operation, and a comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistance tech, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Alerts, and Lane Departure Warning – backed by eight external cameras.

The EV maker is expected to officially launch the Model Y in India within the next few months, with a projected price range of Rs 60–70 lakh. Once on sale, it will face competition from premium EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 GT.
