Toyota India launches the fourth-gen Prius. Alongside that, the firm has also updated the Camry Hybrid with new features and equipment.
After showcasing the fourth-gen Toyota Prius in India in 2016, the firm has now put the famous hybrid car on sale in our market. Priced at Rs 38.96 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the new Prius will be sold in the country as a CBU in a single Z8 variant.
In its latest avatar, the Prius has decided to become more exciting and sportier than ever before. Which is why the exterior design of the new model features sharp creases and raked lines all over. In profile, though, it looks largely similar to the outgoing car, retaining its liftback style. That said, every component is new under the skin as the fourth-gen Prius is based on the firm’s all-new TNGA platform. As a result, it’s much lighter now but also 61mm longer, 15mm wider and 20mm lower than the third-gen Prius.
The Prius is propelled by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 95bhp and 142Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a 53kW electric motor, which means the system develops 121bhp in total. Power is sent to front wheels via an E-CVT automatic gearbox. As per Toyota, the new Prius returns 26.27km/l.
On the inside, the new Prius gets a revamped cabin with additional features and equipment. Among some of the highlights, it gets a touchscreen infotainment system with 10 JBL speakers, head-up display, leather seats, push start-stop ignition, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, etc. Feature wise, the Prius comes equipped with LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels. On the safety front, it gets 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, traction control and vehicle stability control.
Alongside the new Prius, Toyota has also updated the Camry Hybrid with new features and equipment. The new Camry is priced at Rs 31.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With the update, the Camry gets new LED fog lamps in addition to LED headlamps, new 15-spoke alloy wheels, a new infotainment system with 12 JBL speakers, wireless phone charger, reverse parking assist, and more. It also gets 9 airbags and tyre pressure monitoring system among other highlights.
Powertrain remains unchanged, meaning it comes with a 2.5-litre petrol engine that runs in conjunction with an electric motor to produce a total system output of 202bhp. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.16 km/l. The Camry Hybrid is assembled locally for sale in the domestic market.
