The new Volvo S60 will be launched in India in the second half of 2020; will arrive as a petrol-only model.
Volvo presented the new, refreshed avatar of its entry-level mid-size sedan, the S60, in June 2018. As for the car's Indian chapter, the S60 (previous generation) was discontinued here along with the V40 hatchback in July last year, paving the way the for the current generation to arrive on our shores. Now, Volvo has confirmed that the new S60 will be launched in India in the second half of 2020.
Internationally, the new Volvo S60 is on sale in three trims (R-Design Plus, Inscription Plus & Polestar Engineered) and two powertrain options (T5 FWD Automatic & T8 Twin Engine Hybrid AWD Automatic). Both powertrains are petrol only, as the new S60 was the first Volvo model to ditch diesel engines entirely.
Internationally, in August 2019, Volvo had replaced the earlier R-Design trim with a new R-Design Plus option that got some mechanical updates as well. The R-Design Plus trim includes stiffer springs, new monotube dampers, thicker anti-roll bars & a 12mm lower ride height. Other goodies on offer with the R-Design Plus trim include a head-up display, paddle shifters, high-gloss black exterior trim elements, a choice of 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, metal-mesh/aluminium interior inlays and part-leather sports seats. The Inscription Plus trim, on the other hand, offers more comfort & luxury-oriented setup.
For India, expect the entry-level T5 FWD Automatic to be the preferred powertrain. The T5 derivative is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor with a power & torque output of 247bhp & 350Nm, respectively. The four-cylinder unit sends power to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
We're yet to find out which trims will be offered in India. The Polestar Engineered version can be ruled out though, as it is exclusively available with the T8 Twin Engine Hybrid AWD powertrain.
