The convertible Rolls Royce Dawn has been launched in India for Rs. 6.25 crore (ex-showroom) and is now available across all five Rolls Royce dealerships in India.

Building up on the baby Rolls Royce Wraith coupe, Rolls Royce decided to chop the roof off and make it into a convertible. Following which they even decided to redesign the rest of the car slightly to give it its own presence. This has given birth to the Rolls Royce Dawn. The Dawn is a new four-seater, super luxury convertible.

The convertible roof of the Dawn can be raised and lowered on the go in a matter of 20 seconds but is restricted to a speed of up to 50km/h. Despite being a convertible, Rolls Royce claims they have engineered the cabin to be as silent as the hardtop, with the roof up even though the car uses a fabric roof. Rolls Royce refers to the Dawn’s convertible roof as the silent bullet.

In terms of the exterior design, the basic car underneath the skin is the Wraith, which is already on sale in India, but Rolls Royce says that 80% of all the body panels are new. The tyres on the Dawn are also specially designed for the car.

Due to the underpinnings of the coupe, The Dawn gets the same 6.6-litre, V12 engine that churns out 570bhp and 780Nm of torque. The engine is mated an 8-speed automatic gearbox that uses satellite technology to sense the road ahead and where the car is heading, and change gears accordingly to deliver a seamless comfortable ride.

The suspension has also been revised for the Dawn from the coupe model to accommodate the added weight of the folding roof. To make the car into a convertible, the suspension has been softened while the chassis has been stiffened to provide the trademark Rolls Royce ‘magic carpet’ ride quality.

Currently Rolls Royce has five dealerships across India. The dealerships are located in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Chandigarh. The Rolls Royce Dawn is available at all of these dealerships as of now. Customers of Rolls Royce Motor Cars in India will also get a four-year unlimited warranty with service and maintenance being covered in the package for the first four years regardless of mileage. Additionally, 24-hour road side assistance will also be provided.
