The Nexon EV will be the first car to feature Tata’s new Ziptron electric powertrain technology. Tata claims that the Nexon EV has a driving range of about 250-300km on a single full charge
Over the last month or so, Tata Motor has been running a lot of teaser campaigns for the Nexon EV. The company has released multiple videos on YouTube starring Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar. Tata Motors is now ready to unveil the Nexon EV on 17th December. When launched early next year, it will become the first electric SUV to be introduced by Tata.
In September this year, Tata Motors revealed their new Ziptron technology. The Nexon EV will be the first car to be based on this new electric powertrain. The electric SUV will use an IP67 certified lithium-ion battery pack which promises a driving range of 250-300km in a single full charge. To ensure an efficient way of driving, the Nexon EV also gets brake regeneration. The Ziptron technology features a Battery Management System (BMS) that promises extended life. Tata Motors seems to so confident about this that they have announced an 8-year warranty for the battery. The Nexon EV features a permanent magnet AC motor that has been tested for more than 1 million kilometres.
Although the Nexon EV has been spotted testing on numerous occasions before, design details haven’t been revealed yet thanks to a heavy camouflage. But considering it will be a new product, there’s a high probability of some of the new design cues to be seen on the Nexon facelift as well.
Tata is expected to launch the Nexon EV in the first quarter of 2020. Expect it to be priced higher than the top-spec Nexon on sale. We expect it to be in the Rs 15-17 lakh price bracket.
The Nexon EV isn’t the only model that will be showcased this month. Tata is all set to officially reveal the Altroz on 3rd December. This is the first time Tata will enter the premium hatchback space to compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the likes.
