Car lovers, buckle up — May 2025 is bringing some much-anticipated action to the Indian auto industry. With brands like Kia, Volkswagen, and Tata Motors gearing up for exciting launches/debuts, the month promises a refreshing shift after a relatively calm April. From stylish upgrades to all-new nameplates, the upcoming lineup is packed with models set to grab attention. For prospective Indian car buyers, this could be the perfect time to explore what’s rolling out. Here’s a look at some of the most-awaited car launches in India this May.

Kia Clavis

The new Kia Clavis will make its debut in India on May 8, 2025, likely as a more premium and refined iteration of the Carens MPV. According to the teaser, the model will share similarities with the Carens while offering upgraded features like a bigger sunroof. Though exact details are currently under wraps, the Kia Clavis is set to break away from the MPV's familiar design language, and embrace a SUV-inspired look. The teaser confirms some prominent features like Level-2 ADAS and a Panoramic sunroof.

No mechanical changes are expected — the Clavis will likely continue with the options found in the existing Carens 1.5-litre NA petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel engines. It is likely to ask for a higher price tag than the MPV, which is priced between Rs 10.60 lakh and Rs 19.50 lakh (both, ex-showroom).

Tata Altroz Facelift

The Tata Altroz is set to get a fresh new look with its first significant facelift since its launch in India. Expected to go on sale in India on May 21, 2025, the updated model will bring several cosmetic upgrades, including a revamped grille, new alloy wheel designs, and flush door handles at the front, all aimed at keeping the design contemporary. A new colour palette is also expected.

Inside, the Altroz will likely gain Tata’s signature two-spoke steering wheel, new upholstery, and a redesigned dashboard with a fully integrated touchscreen infotainment system. Powertrain options are likely to remain unchanged, including 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units. The facelifted Altroz could start at an estimated Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Golf GTI

Volkswagen is reportedly preparing to bring the Golf GTI to India in May 2025 as a completely built unit (CBU). The hot hatch is expected to be offered in limited numbers, with an estimated price tag of around Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom). It will feature design elements like red brake callipers, a signature red trim above the DRLs, and sleek body-coloured accents, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, circular dual exhaust pipes, and wraparound LED taillights. Inside, the GTI is likely to offer a tech-rich experience with features like a 12.9-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital cockpit, wireless charging, and a head-up display, all tuned for a premium, driver-focused feel. The powertrain setup is said to include a single 2-litre turbo petrol unit mated to a 7-speed DCT.

Along with the powertrain upgrade, the top-spec Windsor EV Pro will feature Level-2 ADAS, with features like adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, and lane departure warning. It will also include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)  and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities.
