Volkswagen releases images of its new electric car concept that will also come with autonomous driving mode and here is a peculiar feature - it can collect parcels on the owner’s behalf!

Ahead of the world premiere of its new electric car I.D. at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Volkswagen has released images of its futuristic concept on the internet. The new Volkswagen I.D. electric car is developed on the company’s equally new Modular Electric Drive (MED) platform that will spawn a whole range of electric cars in the future. Armed with a new drive and its new electric car architecture, Volkswagen aims to sell one million electric vehicles by the year 2025.

Coming back to the Volkswagen I.D. concept car, it is powered by a 125kW electric motor and a lithium ion battery pack which is said to give the electric car a claimed driving range of anywhere between 400 – 600 kilometers depending on driving conditions and mannerisms. Going by its futuristic theme the new Volkswagen I.D. will of course feature autonomous driving capabilities.

Volkswagen says that the I.D. is its first electric car based on its Modular Electric Drive (MED) kit. Not too many details about the car have been released at the moment but cool new tricks include the vehicle retracting its steering wheel when being driven in autonomous mode and (get this) the ability to receive parcels on the owner’s behalf when she / he isn’t home!

The design of the Volkswagen I.D. electric car is going to be used as a family design language which flow in the DNA of all future Volkswagen electric vehicles. As is the case with electric cars and their compact packaging the I.D. is said to have a very spacious cabin.

Volkswagen plans to launch the car on the market by 2020 and sold parallel to the Golf while the autonomous drive enabled model will be introduced later in 2025.
