Earlier this year in February, Volkswagen took the wraps off their upcoming SUV – the Taigun. The car showcased at the time was near production-ready, so we already know what to expect from the Taigun as far as its design is concerned. But a recent teaser video shared by the brand on their official social media handles reveals that we are inching closer to its launch.

The Taigun sports a typically Volkswagen design language with clean lines and a bold stance. At the front, it gets a chrome grille – just like the other SUVs from the brand. The Taigun’s stance looks wider thanks to the horizontally stacked headlights that are underlined with LED DRLs. The bumper gets a heavy dose of chrome and large air dams. Along the sides, the Taigun gets a sharp shoulder line, some graphics on the C-pillar, and 17-inch alloy wheels – all of which add to the sportiness of the design. Around the back, the Taigun gets LED taillights that are connected across the width of the boot. Although not much is known about the interior of the car as yet, it is safe to expect a clean and elegant interior that resonates the VW brand. The features list is also likely to be in line with the competition.

Marking Volkswagen’s debut in the mid-sized SUV space, the Taigun will be based on the brand’s heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform. Just like the T-Roc, the Taigun too will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor that makes 148bhp and 250Nm. The mid-sized SUV is expected to come paired with a manual transmission as well as a DSG option.

Volkswagen has already listed the Taigun on their official website and it is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. Expect it to be priced in the Rs 10-16 lakh range. The Taigun will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the likes.
