Volvo's first-ever station wagon for India, the V90 Cross Country, goes on sale at a tempting price.

Volvo has launched the V90 Cross Country (CC) in India at Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Available only in a single D5 trim, the V90 Cross Country is one of a kind product on the market. The V90 Cross Country will be brought into the country as a CBU.

For the uninitiated, the V90 CC is a station wagon, albeit its ride height has been increased so that the vehicle can be taken on “all road” conditions. On the design front, the V90 CC is heavily inspired by the S90 saloon, meaning it retains the stunning looks of the sedan in estate car overalls. Among some of the visual highlights, it gets Volvo’s signature grille, Thor’s hammer LED headlamps, 20-inch alloy wheels, body cladding all around, etc. Inside, the V90 CC’s design and layout are identical to the S90 as well. It gets the same dashboard – minus the dark walnut treatment though – and a vertically stacked 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is linked to a 19-speakers Bowers and Wilkins sound system, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, among other features.

Powering the V90 CC is an uprated version of the S90 sedan’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The engine is rated at 232bhp and delivers 480Nm of peak torque. Drive goes to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. To take on bad roads, the V90 CC is equipped with adjustable ride height system - the rear wheels get air-suspension setup. Not only that, it also has an SUV-rivalling ground clearance of 210mm.

At the moment, the Volvo V90 CC doesn’t have a direct rival in India, meaning it’ll have a first mover advantage in the luxury station wagon market here. And by the looks of things, the Volvo V90 CC is a unique product and definitely has a lot of appeal.
