Volvo is reviving the XC70 nearly a decade after the rugged wagon was discontinued and replaced by the V60 Cross Country. The new XC70 will be larger and built on Volvo's latest Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA), a platform designed for long-range plug-in hybrids. As of now, Volvo has not confirmed a launch timeline for the XC70 PHEV in India. However, the plug-in hybrid will be available for orders in China later this year, marking its initial market debut. Availability in other regions, including India, is expected to follow in subsequent phases, though specific dates remain unannounced. Read on for more details.
Even though it's now an SUV instead of a wagon, the new Volvo XC70 aims to live up to its predecessor's reputation as a reliable family vehicle. It expands upon the XC60's dimensions, offering a more generous cabin, and has design similarities with the EM90 and EX90.
Unlike the more robust XC90, the XC70’s sleeker lines and angled rear window contribute to a more dynamic silhouette.

Volvo hasn't revealed the XC70's powertrain details, but it has mentioned a 200-kilometre electric range (CLTC). The new model is expected to feature a battery larger than the XC60 PHEV’s 18.8 kWh, likely resulting in enhanced electric-only driving range. Fast-charging capabilities will be part of the package, although full specifications remain under wraps.
